Day 2. "Jewish Odessa" Tour.

Jews were in Odessa area long before Russia built the city. Odessa sits in a region once held by the Khazars, whose elite converted to Judaism in the 8th century. The Jewish influence is strong and pervades this cosmopolitan city, uniquely described in the dark tales of Isaac Babel. Until World War II, Jews played a dominant role in the city's development. Indeed, in 1939 they constituted over 30% of the city's population. Today Odessa is home to a large Jewish community. We'll begin our first Odessa tour by visiting the majestic, tree-shaded New Synagogue and the tall, grey gothic Brodsky Synagogue, where such composers as Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov came to draw inspiration. After that, you will go to the Odessa sights that have particular meaning to Jewish history. We will visit the Holocaust Monument in the city park and the city's Jewish cemetery. At the cemetery, we'll see the memorial plaque to one of the city's famous Jewish writers. After stops at the music school and conservatory, we'll visit memorial places of Jewish poets and writers who enriched Odessa's cultural life. Jewish Odessa tour will last a total of 2.5 hours.

Day 4. "Odessa Catacombs" Tour.

Your impression of Odessa would not be complete without a visit to a gigantic labyrinth of underground tunnels beneath the city, known as “catacombs”. Odessa is the city with the most famous and the largest network of underground tunnels in the world. The catacombs make up a distance of approximately 2,500 kilometers, sprawling under the city and its surroundings. It is a maze with hundreds of entrances, exits, caves, and tunnels. The Odessa underground tunnels were created nearly 200 years ago. During the World War II, in 1941, when German and Romanian army occupied Odessa during the war, the Soviet Military headquarters gave the order to organize the partisan resistance. The Odessa catacombs were chosen as the camp for the unit of partisans. The catacombs made good hide-outs for World War II partisans. Today only a small portion of the tunnels remain open to the public, although you can choose to explore other sections of the underground city at your own risk. Departing from the port, you will take a panoramic drive through the city and the pastoral Ukrainian countryside to the village of Nerubayskoye. Take a walk into the underground and visit a local museum of Partisan Glory. This Odessa tour will last a total of 2.5 hours.
